Here is how to add music to your MP3tunes Locker in 3 Easy Steps:

Click "Load Music & Video"

First, log in to your account at mp3tunes.com. Now, click the "Load Music & Video" link at the top. It looks like this:

Select Your Files
The next step is to select which files you want to upload to your Locker. If you use iTunes and save your music in the default location you can click "Find All My Music" and the program will attempt to locate your files automatically. If you don't have iTunes or, if you store your music in a folder that can't be found, then you can click "Find Music Myself" and manually locate your files. (Tip: You can also drag and drop files or folders from your file manager on to this uploader window)

Click Upload

After your files have been selected just click the "Upload" button to begin adding stuff to your Locker. After the upload is complete you can click on the "Player" link to go listen to your music.

We've been working on a new version of the iPhone app (Airband) and we are looking for some beta testers. If you have an iPhone and/or an iPod touch you can email us your Unique Device ID (UDID) and we'll add you to the list of testers. We'll send you instructions and a copy of the new software to try. But, in order to tests, we need your unique device ID. Here's how to find it:

1. Connect your device to your computer and launch iTunes.
2. In iTunes, select your device in the ‘Devices’ section and navigate to the Summary tab.
3. Click on the Serial Number label to reveal the Identifier field and the 40 character UDID.
4. Press Control+C to copy the UDID to your clipboard. (Use Command+C on a Mac)

Less Robot - More Human

Our experiment with fully customizable radio called byo.fm illicited lots of feedback. One nifty feature is that you can have articles read to you which means a degree of customization far beyond what other audio channels allow. To read the articles we use TTS (text to speech). These voices attempt to speak as well as humans but users reported version 1 as being too robotic. Working with our partner we have improved the voices making them more natural and handling proper nouns better. Go build your own byo.fm station (it's free) or if you're already created one give it a listen on the web or Android client. A new version of the Apple client will support it coming out shortly.

Infinite Music

You know our goal at MP3tune is 'your music everywhere' but we also want to help you get music flowing to your ears and keep it flowing with a minimum of work on your part. With this in mind we just added a new feature we call "Infinite Playlist". The way it works is that you can start the music anyway you like (search for a favorite, select a playlist, or click the Random/Newest songs playlist).

When play back of that song(s) finishes, your locker will automatically find similar songs and automatically play them. When that list concludes the process starts again so you get an infinite flow of music.

After you have uploaded more than 250 songs, we're able to match songs to whatever genre or style you're playing using our 'fingerprint' technology. [NOTE: If you don't have enough songs in your locker then the web player will select a random list of songs to keep the music flowing.]

Other services may stop the music if you listen too often or periodically halt playback unless you interact with the system, but MP3tunes has no such limit and wants you to enjoy "always-on" music. We built this feature into the web player first but if the feedback is good we're going to expand this functionality to the iPhone/iPod, Android, and other clients.

Build Your Own (BYO) Radio

We're excited to tell you about a new idea that we've been working on behind-the-scenes here at MP3tunes. It's a project we call "byo.fm" (which can mean build-your-own or bring-your-own radio).

Imagine having a customized radio station that plays all of your favorite songs as well as news, weather, sports, and more. We just launched this site today and are starting to beta test. We will be announcing it to the general public in the future but, we wanted you to know about it first. We would love to hear what you think about the concept.

The good news is that if you already have a MP3tunes account then your BYO station is ready to go! You just have to go through the BYO sign-up wizard the first time to configure your preferences. Then, you can start listening to your own station immediately. (Most new customers will have to upload their music before they can listen).

TRY IT OUT!
1. Go to http://www.byo.fm and click the "Audition your Music DJ" link.
2. On the sign up page where it says "Already have an account?" type in your MP3tunes email address and password.
3. Next, select all of your DJs and set your preferences. When you are done you should see a "My Station" page where you can listen to your music along with news, sports, weather, and more.

MP3tunes Mobile Locker Tips and Tricks

If you have an Android phone or device we invite you to check out the FREE software that lets you listen to your MP3tunes music locker. Just go to the Android Market on your phone and search for "mp3tunes". Once you have it installed, just type your MP3tunes username and password and you have instant mobile access to your entire music locker! Learn more about the MP3tunes Mobile Locker for Android.

A lot of people have written to tell us how much they enjoy listening to their music on the go. We decided to post some tips and tricks that will make your experience even better:

Download songs

This is a recently added feature. (You can find out what version you're running by opening the Android Market and going to the "Downloads" tab. Then click MP3tunes and scroll down to find the number.) Starting in version 1.0.22 (alpha) we added a "Download" option. To find it, just navigate to a list of tracks. Then long-press on a track name and you'll see a new menu appear. Click on "Add track to local storage" to download.

After the song finishes downloading you can navigate to the Android Media Player (called "Music") and the songs will be stored on your phone's local memory card. You can then use the Android media player to listen to songs even if you don't have a network connection. We plan to do a lot of work on this feature so stay tuned!

Stop playing a song

Another feature that we recently added is the ability to stop a song. You can see this option on the MP3tunes Mobile Locker Player screen. There is a square, 'STOP' button next to the play/pause button. Clicking this will stop the track and return you to the list of songs.
This feature is actually located in two places: if you go to the Android menu button, you will also see an option to stop the currently playing track:

Some people have asked us about being able to quit, exit, or close the program. We have heard you loud and clear. To exit the MP3tunes Mobile Locker just navigate to the main screen (using the "menu" button in Android). Then, go to menu again and click "Logout". Once you are logged out the session will be closed. You can then click the "Home" button to return to your phone's start screen.

MP3tunes Android Player: New And Improved!

We have been hard at work to improve the MP3tunes Android music player. The new Google Nexus One phone offers a lot of exciting new features with a big increase in speed. The increased memory and the 1 Ghz processor make quite a difference when listening to or streaming your Locker. If you have the older version of the Android Player we recommend upgrading to the latest version. The first time that you upgrade you will have to uninstall the existing software manually. To do this just go to the Home screen, then select Settings then Applications. Choose "Manage applications" and scroll down and find the MP3tunes Mobile Locker and click on it. Here you should see an "Uninstall" button. You can install the latest stable version by going to the Android Market. Just search for "mp3tunes". After you install the latest version, all future versions will offer you updates and upgrade automatically. (You won't have to uninstall the previous version each time). You can submit feature requests and bug reports here.

If you like beta testing software and want to see the latest cutting-edge version of the Android MP3tunes Player you can manually install it. To do this you have to enable the manual installation of software on Android. To do this, go to the Home screen and select Settings. Then go to Applications and check the box that says: "Unknown sources: Allow install of non-Market applications". Then, grab the latest version from http://mp3tunes.com/androidclient

If you manually install the beta version you will NOT get updates automatically. Each time you install the .apk file you will have to manually uninstall the previous version. The beta testing version may offer different features that aren't available in the stable version. But, it may also contain bugs. So, if you install the beta testing version we ask you to please report any bugs that you find to mp3tunes.android@gmail.com. If you're a developer you can download the latest version of the source code from the Google Code site. We are always looking for Android developers who want to contribute to the project.

Listen to your Locker on your iPhone

We've added another way to explore and enjoy your personal music collection! Just go to your locker and check out the new Beta Player with the new "SmartBar" feature (highlighted in red above). As you play songs, the SmartBar will show similar tracks in your library and recommend new artists and songs. You can click on the word SmartBar to show or hide the panel at any time.

Here is a sneak peek at an upcoming Google Desktop Gadget for MP3tunes! Now you can listen to your MP3tunes Locker right from your desktop with this great little gadget.

If you haven't used Google Desktop before .... it's a program that gives you easy access to information on your local machine and from the web. Google Desktop makes searching your own email, files, music, and photos as easy as searching the web with Google. Anyone can download it for free. There are versions for all platforms (Mac, Windows, and Linux).

The developers have already submitted the MP3tunes Gadget to Google. And, as soon as they add it to the Gadget web site, we'll post a link. Here are a few more screenshots:

Show everyone what you're listening to!

Now, you can show the world what you're listening to in your MP3tunes Locker! Just go to: http://mp3tunes.com/widgets and and use the "Widget Configurator". Type in the email address for your MP3tunes account, pick the number of songs to display and click the "Generate Widget Code" button.

This will generate a snippet of Javascript code that you can copy and paste and add to your own blog or web site. To see what it looks like, check out the right hand side of our blog.

Here's how we added it to our blog:

After you log in to your Blogger account just click on the "Layout" tab:
Click the link that says:
In the pop-up window that appears select the plus sign (+) next to HTML/Javascript:
Copy the line of code that you generated on the "Widget Configurator" page:
Paste the line of code into the form and click the Save button. (Note: you can leave the "Title" field blank):

That's it! If you reload your blog page you should see a list of the latest tracks that you listened to in your MP3tunes Locker. If you ever need to go back and edit the code again (in Blogger) just click the 'Edit' link under 'Layout':

We encourage everyone to give it a try and let us know how it works for you. Some of the new features:

iPhone app testers needed!

We are looking for some alpha / beta testers. If you want to give the MP3tunes iPhone app a try then we'll need some info about your iPhone/iPod touch.

Find your device ID:

* Connect your iPhone / iPod touch to the computer and launch iTunes
* Click on your device and click "serial number"
* Serial number will now change to Identifier (a 40 digits alpha-numeric code)
* Select Edit / Copy to copy the Device ID to the clipboard

Send to: kendall@mp3tunes.com. Tell us your full name, your MP3tunes email, and your Device ID and we'll add your name to the airband tester list and send you updates.

Send videos from your Locker to any mobile phone

If you've ever wanted a funny or musical video on your mobile phone to show others or watch while traveling about it's now simple with MP3tunes and your personal Locker. Open your Locker, find a video then right-click on it and select "Load to: Mobile" Enter in the telephone number (be sure and include the country code) and we'll send the video to your phone. The video is optimized for a phone's bandwidth and screen size automatically. (This technique will also work for audio files.)

To add video to your account use LockerSync or DownloadHelper. (NOTE: This will work on any phone which has a data connection to load the video except an iphone because Apple locks them up. Don't fret iphone users we'll have our iphone app out shortly so you can play too.)

Video files are now being support in your Locker and we just added significant new features to the web player to make it easy to find your videos and play them back. Couple notable features:

New Video category conveniently groups all your videos
Visual icon indicates songs (blue musical note) and videos (red video icon)

Meta search engines for DRM-free MP3s

There are many meta search engines for free MP3 files, but none for commercial MP3s. (A meta search engine is one that searches multiple places and compiles the results.) Since there's a large variety in what stores carry we thought it would be useful to create an MP3 store search. Check out the newest version of MP3 Store Guide which now profiles more than 30 MP3 stores and includes a meta search feature. (We're also making the source code for the search engine available for all to use and improve.) Give it a try!

MP3tunes in your car?!?

Wireless delivery of music to your car is becoming a reality and Clarion is the early leader. Their touch screen MiND device (which was also on display at the Intel booth) will load your music collection to your car directly from the Internet. Rip a CD, download a track at your office computer and then have it automatically loaded to your dashboard using either your mobile phone's net connection or wifi. Behind the scene, songs are being copied from your personal music Locker to your car so you can listen to all your favorite tunes while cruising down the road. In addition to music syncing, the MiND also displays Google Maps and Traffic.com – all controlled from the net.
